Matariki Magic at Little Earth Montessori Rosedale

As Matariki celebrations take place across the nation, the children at Little Earth Montessori Rosedale are immersed in their own special Maori New Year festivities.

From string games and stick games to traditional Maori myths and songs, centre children and staff have loved learning more about New Zealand’s Maori culture and the much anticipated Matariki festival. Even parents are getting in on the action thanks to a special Matariki dinner being hosted for families at the centre.

Matariki marks the beginning of the New Year and is also the name of the Pleiades star cluster – otherwise referred to as the Seven Sisters - a group of stars known worldwide and treasured here in Aotearoa.

Lollipops Auckland Central was awash with colour as staff, children and families celebrated Diwali, the much-loved festival of lights.
