Fire Truck Fun

27 September 2019

Many young children are fascinated by fire trucks, and what better way to learn about them than to get up close and personal with the real thing.

Earlier this month the children from Active Explorers Mayfair and Nurtured @ Active Explorers Mayfair were treated to a visit from local fire fighters and two fire trucks.

“The fire fighters came into the centres and read a book titled 'Get Out, Stay Out', which we have been reading to our tamariki lately.  They also showed the children how a fire alarm works and what to do if they hear one sound,” says centre manager Selina Hargreaves.

“Then it was time to get dressed up as fire fighters and go outside to look at the trucks and squirt the hoses.  Some of our toddlers even got to sit in the truck.  They looked at the flashing lights, the big wheels, the tools and the hoses.  Wow!  What a lot of learning occurred today.”
