Welcome to Active Explorers Greenmeadows, a childcare centre in Greenmeadows, Napier, where we offer a warm and nurturing space for tamariki from infants to young learners. With a focus on whānau, cultural celebrations, and local community connections, we help your child explore, learn, and grow in a safe, exciting environment.

Meet our Centre Manager

Kia ora

I’m Mel, Centre Manager at Active Explorers Greenmeadows since January 2023. My passion for teaching truly ignited after having my son, Hunter, and I haven’t looked back.

I love building strong relationships with tamariki and whānau and celebrating their learning journey and successes. I live with my husband Brendan, our son Hunter (14), and often see Brendan’s son William (17). I come from a small family and am the eldest of two.

In my spare time, I enjoy being with whānau and friends, listening to music, walking in nature, beach outings, and collecting crystals.

At Active Explorers Greenmeadows, we prioritise strong family connections and cultural diversity, creating an environment where tamariki can thrive. We value each child’s individual journey and work closely with whānau to ensure their learning experience is meaningful and engaging.

Our purpose-built centre offers spacious learning environments and plenty of outdoor space for tamariki to explore. With regular excursions to local parks and the community, we provide an environment where learning is exciting and dynamic. Our centre is the perfect place for your child to connect, discover, and grow.

Each age group has its own space, with tailored activities and routines. Our Explorers Programme offers 4-year-olds the opportunity to explore the local community with their kaiako, while we also host events that celebrate milestones and bring whānau together.

Our dedicated team is passionate about providing a loving, supportive environment for both tamariki and their whānau. We believe in building strong relationships and working together to support each child’s learning and development. Our kaiako bring a wealth of experience, with skills in gardening, performing, and creative arts, all contributing to a vibrant learning experience.

Our Rooms

Our Spaces

Our centre features spacious, welcoming rooms designed to provide tamariki with a safe and stimulating environment. Each room offers a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces, ensuring plenty of opportunities for exploration, creativity, and active play.

0–2 years

Kowhai Room

The Kowhai Room offers a homely, nurturing space for our youngest tamariki to explore and learn. With a focus on connection to nature, children help tend to our mara kai garden, learning about the seasons and where food comes from. Inside, they enjoy a calm, open area where they can freely explore their world.

2-3 years

Kauri Room

In the Kauri Room, tamariki enjoy an open indoor space perfect for building, creating, and exploring. Outside, they can climb, dig in the sandpit, and engage in physical play, which helps develop their motor skills and confidence. It’s a fun and active space that encourages curiosity and socialising.

3–5 years

Pohutukawa Room

The Pohutukawa Room is designed for our older tamariki, with a spacious outdoor area for running, climbing, and testing out their motor skills. Inside, the room features an open-plan layout and a quiet sensory space for those moments when tamariki need a break. It’s a space that fosters independence, exploration, and imagination.
